Tree Lucerne or Tagasaste

Chamaecytisus palmensis syn. proliferus

Sow: Seeds can be directly sown or sown into seed trays

Sow at temperatures about 20deg

Soak seeds overnight to improve germination

Space: Grows up to 5m tall and 5m wide (can be pruned to keep small)

Position: Full sun, tolerates frost once established

Uses: Has many uses including animal fodder, as the leaves have a high protein content, suitable for grazing animals. Great for bee forage as it is one of the first to flower in spring. Also used as a windbreak or shelter for animals or paddocks.  

Harvest: Tree can be pruned for animal fodder or coppiced for firewood
